After a really long time I was able to coincide travel dates with that of Karthik, the chief naturalist of Jungle Lodges and Resorts. It was a rainy weekend in Karnataka, and a particularly heavy one in the Nagarahole area. I was looking for elephants and Karthik insects, so, the timing couldn’t have been better! We did three safaris and it poured heavily in two of them with the third (morning) being bright and sunny. The rain was pure magic and came down in sheets. The evening sun was striking the downpour at an angle causing sheer magnificence. Though I tried, no image can do justice to that spectacle!
We saw some amazing elephants (tuskers + 1 makna) at really close quarters and also a tusker on the backwaters which easily had the longest set of tusks of any animal I have seen. The animal had to hold its head at a slight upward angle to prevent the crossed tusks from scraping the earth!
