After my maiden September trip to the beautiful Bhitarkanika mangroves in Odisha, I was keen to come back in summer to try and spot the elusive Mangrove Pitta.
I was lucky to meet the knowledgeable Bijay Kumar Das during my earlier trip and it was a no-brainer to request him to guide us this time around also. We had fabulous sightings of the Pitta in conspicuous courtship behaviour and patrolling territories. Overall, Bhitarkanika is an amazing biodiversity hotspot. The ability to walk in mangrove trails makes it very accessible to spot the otherwise difficult-to-spot denizens of the swamps.
