Two trips to welcome the rains!
The monsoon was just breaking when we went to Nagarahole and Bandipur in May. There was a lot of activity around waterholes in Nagarahole (early-May) but the forest was already quite wet in Bandipur (late-May). We found two tigers “mud-puddling” in small water-filled depressions on mud tracks in Nagarahole but were quick to disappear upon hearing our vehicles. I photographed one of them hiding in the lantana next to the track. Images till the White-bellied Woodpecker are from Nagarahole, then Bandipur.
The Jerdon’s Bushlark of these parts seems to have a very different song compared to ‘regular’ Jerdon’s Bushlarks of South India (as discovered by per Alstrom & Shashank Dalvi) hence you see many of their pictures appearing in this post.
