Christmas, New Year & other celebrations!
Wish you all a really wild 2008! After a not-so-eventful year in the jungle (because of hectic official travel), it was a good finish to 2007. The last three weekends were trips to Anamalais, BR Hills (Christmas) and Kabini (New Year). Hope it’s the sign of things to come in the New Year! The latter two trips were short and hence clubbed together in one trip report. The BR Hills trip was really short (less than 24-hours) and included a long drive on the beautiful Budhipaduga road in the foothills on the K Gudi side. The highlight was a beautiful family of three Four-horned antelopes gracefully bounding across the road — a nice contrast to the typical scramble of deer (chital, sambhar). Unfortunately, we couldn’t make any images but a worthwhile species to go back for! The trip to Kabini was relatively longer (2-nights) and, for the first time, we stayed at Cicada Kabini next to the famed Jungle Lodges’ Kabini River Lodge.
The key highlight was a glimpse of a tiger on the morning of the 1st of January — a fabulous way to start the New Year. That evening, when we were back in Bangalore, tourists in both jeep and boat saw the same tigress along with its three cubs! Atleast, like a fellow visitor mentioned in the morning safari, we breathed the same air as the tigress even though we barely saw her!
The Kabini images appear first and the BR Hills images starts with the Brown Flycatcher image. Enjoy the images & wish you a great 2008!
