3-day trip at the onset of the monsoon! Good friends from Cincinnati, Sangeetha and Rajesh had come to India and expressed a keen desire to check out some wild places near Bangalore. The monsoon was just breaking over South India and the choice was simple – Nagarhole – to witness the elephant spectacle on the Kabini backwaters, among other things.
It rained the entire trip and the jungle was going through the magical transformation that happens every monsoon – beautifully depicted in Shekhar Dattatri’s documentary ‘Nagarhole – tales from an Indian jungle’. Elephants had congregated on the backwaters to soak in the first showers.
While all trips to the jungle was dripping (we had to keep closing the jeep top with tarpaulin) we managed to spend a lot of time on the banks of the Kabini through jeep rides and boat rides. Almost all animals photographed were dripping wet as you can see from the images!
