Every year, we make an unsuccessful attempt to visit the Kabini backwaters to watch the famed elephant congregations. In the last few years, because of pre-monsoon showers in March and April, this phenomenon rarely happens in its usual splendor. The elephants find water inside the jungle and prefer to stay there without the need to expose themselves out in the backwaters. In 'typical' seasons one could count upto 200 elephants in the backwaters.
This trip was much the same with few elephants showing up in the backwaters though the elephant activity inside the jungle was heavy and we encountered several herds on every safari / boat ride.
We saw two leopards in four rides -- both were flashes as usual but I could get a few frames of the second!
